PROVO -- For the eighth-straight year the BYU gymnastics team has earned a berth in the NCAA Regionals announced by the NCAA Monday afternoon. The No. 23 Cougars will be the fourth seed in the North Central Region held in Denver on April 14.

Joining BYU in the North Central Region is No. 2 Georgia, No. 11 Penn State, No. 14 Denver, No. 25 Minnesota and No. 28 Utah State. The top two scoring teams at Regionals will advance to NCAA Nationals in Salt Lake City on April 26-28.

"We are looking forward to competing," BYU coach Brad Cattermole said. "Those are great teams to compete against. We have to relax and lay it all out there. Ultimately it is going to come down to who hits their routines."

The Cougars have now qualified for regional competition 18 times under Cattermole's direction. They have only missed the postseason once in the 19 years he has been at the helm. BYU was the sixth seed in last years North Central Regional, which proved to be the toughest region in the nation with all six competing teams ranked in the Top 25. The Cougars advanced to Nationals in 2005 after entering Regionals as the third seed in the North Central Region.

Of the three teams from the state of Utah to qualify for regional competition, only perennial-power Utah has a higher seed. The Utes will be the second seed in the North Region held in Berkeley, Calif.

Starting time for the North Central Regional is scheduled for 6 p.m. MT in the Magness Arena.
