PROVO -- Fourteen Cougars from the BYU women’s soccer squad were named to the Fall 2009 Academic All-Mountain West Conference team, as announced by the conference earlier today.

A total of 384 student-athletes were named to the Fall 2009 Academic All-Mountain West Conference team. Fall sports include men’s and women’s cross country, football, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
The 14 athletes from BYU who received the academic award are the most from any of the other women’s soccer programs in the MWC. The BYU squad also received a team academic award from the National College Soccer Association of America this year. To be nominated for this award, a team must finish with a GPA above a 3.0. The team finished with an overall GPA of 3.31 for the 2009 season.
