PROVO, Utah – At the moment, No. 5 BYU women’s soccer isn’t just in the top five of the polls, but is also leading the nation in attendance. While the coaches and players prefer to take things one game at a time, here’s what the big picture looks like when it comes to a season that has already been a record-setter when it comes to attendance.

The Cougars have yet to allow a goal at home and are averaging 4,208 fans each time they step on South Field. BYU leads the nation in average attendance by more than 1,000 fans per game and despite hosting at least two fewer games than the rest of the teams in the top five, also lead in total attendance.

To this point in the season, the Cougars have set themselves up for a potentially memorable year and not just on the field. The fans at South Field have put themselves in a position to set two NCAA attendance records by the time November is done.

BYU’s average of 4,208 fans is 225 more than the record set by North Carolina in 2001. No team has ever broken the 4,000-fan plateau for the entire season as long as the record has been kept since 1998.

With four home games remaining and a possible fifth in the first round of the NCAA tournament, averaging 4,000 fans per game would give BYU 45,000 total. A second NCAA tournament game would possibly also set the total attendance record which BYU currently owns from 2012 when 48,858 fans came out to South Field.

In the aiming high category, no team has ever drawn 50,000 fans in a season which would come with a bump from the current average or possibly with multiple NCAA tournament games.

This season, BYU has already set two new attendance records at South Field. In the home opener against Colorado, 5,589 fans watched BYU win 2-0. A week later, 5,620 fans watched BYU defeat Utah 2-0. Both games set new attendance records at South Field and both are in the top 15 of regular season crowds in NCAA history.

To help with your plans to see BYU try for its fourth West Coast Conference championship in a row and to help set two NCAA records, the remaining home games and dates are below.
