The 2008 MWC Tournament is being held in Las Vegas.
PROVO -- The Mountain West Conference has announced the bracket for the 2008 MWC Soccer Tournament, which will be held in Las Vegas from Wed., Nov. 5 to Sat., Nov. 8.
The Cougars (15-5-0, 7-0-0, MWC), who won the MWC regular season conference title, are the number one seed heading in to the tournament. BYU will face the winner of the game between No. 4 seed New Mexico (8-5-5, 3-3-1, MWC) and No. 5 seed UNLV (11-6-2, 3-3-1, MWC), who will face off Wednesday at 3 p.m.
BYU's game will kickoff Thursday, Nov. 6 at 3 p.m.
The Cougars defeated both the Lobos and the Rebels in regular season play. BYU defeated UNLV 1-0 at South Field on Oct. 9 when freshman forward Lauren Anderson's corner kick made it into the box and junior midfielder Whitney Feller was able to put the ball in the net. BYU beat New Mexico on the road by a score of 2-1 on Oct. 18. Senior forwards Katie Larkin and Katie Fellows Hodgkiss scored for the Cougars. The one goal allowed against New Mexico was the only goal allowed by BYU during MWC play.
Utah (10-8-2, 5-2-0, MWC) is No. 2 seed in the tournament, TCU (13-3-2, 4-2-1, MWC) is the No. 3 seed, and San Diego State (6-9-3, 2-4-1, MWC) is the sixth seed.
The semi-final games will be televised live by the mtn., and the championship game will be broadcast tape-delayed at 10:30 p.m. on Sat., Nov. 8 and at 1 p.m. on Sun. Nov. 9.
The winner of the MWC Tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The Cougars beat UNLV 2-1 in the 2007 championship game and advanced to the tournament.
