In their final two games of the spring schedule, BYU's women's soccer teams picked up a 4-2 win over Cal-Berkeley and fell 0-4 to St. Mary's College to finish the spring season with a 4-3-4 record.
The Cougar team made the most of its scoring opportunities against Cal with four goals from three different players. Jeni Viernes kicked in two goals followed by a goal a piece from forwards Aydree Soffe and Lydia Ojuja. BYU had a commanding 3-1 advantage in the contest until the Golden Bears scored with just two minutes left on the game clock.
In the game against 17th ranked St Mary's, the Cougar team did not faire as well, dropping the game 0-4. BYU was down 1-0 at half time, but allowed St. Mary's to score three goals in a 12-minute span in second half action that put the game out of reach.
For the next three and a half months the players will focus their attention on individual conditioning before the team returns for fall practice beginning August 14. The MWC regular season and tournament champs open the 2002 season hosting Portland on August 30.
