Softball Takes Two From the Utes.

PROVO -- BYU stole two games away from Utah winning in convincing fashion 13-0 in game one and 5-3 in game two Saturday in Salt Lake City.

Three days after throwing a perfect game against UVSC, Summer Tobias gave up only two hits in the game one shutout, improving to 9-4 on the season.

"Summer started out a little shaky in the first inning," BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. "But she came on strong and pitched a great game for us."

Offensively, the Cougars really poured it on with a big eight run second inning and never looked back finishing off the Utes in five innings.

Game two started off quickly again for BYU scoring two runs in the first. However, Utah stayed strong also getting a run to cut the BYU lead to 2-1. In the fourth, the Cougars pulled away scoring three runs that included a two-run home run by Daniella Urincho taking a 5-1 advantage. Utah tried to make a game of it cutting the lead to 5-3 in the fifth but couldn't muster any more.

BYU used three pitchers in game two. Brooke Boyce started with Urincho pitching four and a third innings, and Tobias pitched the last inning.

"I was really pleased with the way we came out and played well both on the offensive and defensive end," Eakin said.

Highlights include Debbie Dodds going 5-for-7 on the day with two home runs, four RBI, and Urincho going 3-for-7 also with two home runs and four RBI.

For the Cougars, it was the first time BYU softball has swept Utah, at Utah since becoming NCAA in 2000.

BYU improves to 20-8 overall and hosts Utah State Tuesday April 5, at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
