STOCKTON, Calif. – After day one of the Pacific Invitational, the BYU swim team is dominating the water with both teams at a comfortable lead in first place.
The women are in first with a score of 459, with the University of San Diego at second with 368. The men’s team has racked up 522.5 points, ahead of University of the Pacific with 471.5.
Cougar relay teams started the invite strong, with both men and women taking first. The women’s 200 medley relay team of Hailey Campbell, Kassandra Bispo, Kim Welch and Taryn Toolson recorded a time of 1:45.26. The men’s team touched in at 1:34.23 with the help of Jordan Fletcher, Brady Wells, David Armstrong and Garret Beaman.
In the 200 free, Stott Busnell and Sammy Bates swept for first and second places with times of 1:42.64 and 1:42.93, respectively.
Allie Dodds grabbed second in the 400 IM with her time of 4:31.59, while teammate Jessica Ampuero placed fourth with 4:35.05.
In the same event, Rafael Alfaro recorded a first place time of 4:05.20. Andrew Rutherfurd and Seth Russell helped pick up a few more points, finishing third and fourth with times of 4:09.68 and 4:10.92, respectively.
Toolson grabbed another first place win in the 50 free with her time of 23.81, while Campbell took third with 24.44.
Fletcher and Ryan Krause followed in the same fashion for the 50 free with Fletcher in first at 20.83 and Krause in third with 21.55.
Bispo and Londyn Clawson finished second and third in the 100 breaststroke with times of 1:06.12 and 1:07.05.
Alfaro gained yet another first place win in the 100 breast with his time of 58.73.
The men’s 400 free relay team, consisting of Dani Bates, Fletcher, Krause and Beaman, touched in for first place at 3:08.98.
The women gained a 2, 3, 4 sweep in the 1650 free with Dodds at second place with 17:40.36, Amy Xu at third with 17:53.51 and Alina Fong at fourth with her time of 18:02.98.
Robert Miner finished at third place in the men’s heat of the 1650 free with his time of 16:47.67.
