MADISON -- The 20th-ranked BYU women's tennis team walk away with win No. 8 as they defeated the Badgers of Wisconsin in a 4-3 decision. The Cougars are now 8-3 on the season.
Jumping out to an early lead over the Badgers, BYU clinched the doubles point winning at the second and third positions.
Rebecca Pike and Sofia Holden won their match posting an 8-4 score over Wisconsin's Teresa Gonzaga and Shana McElroy. At the No. 3 spot, Australian Nicole Schneider and Lauren Jones pushed past Lexi Goldin and Kaylan Caiati 8-4 as well. Pike and Schneider are both undefeated in doubles play this season.
In singles play the Cougars split the wins with the Badgers at three a piece. Posting wins for BYU were senior Barbora Zahnova at the top seed, Olga Boulytcheva at the fourth seed and Hadley Macfarlane at No. 6. The three singles wins put the Cougars up 4-3 for the win.
The BYU women's tennis team will return home to prepare to face off against the in-state rivals of Utah on Saturday February 28 in Salt Lake City.
