PROVO -- Sophomore McCall Jones of the BYU women’s tennis team will be one of 25 college tennis players named to the 2010 USTA Summer Collegiate Team.
Jones, a sophomore from Orange County, Calif., is one of the 12 women’s players who will participate in the training camp and the only player representing the Mountain West Conference.
“I feel very fortunate to have been chosen to participate in this camp,” said Jones. “It will give me an opportunity to play with some of the best college tennis players in the country and be coached by the best. I hope to gain valuable experience that will help me become a better player.”
The women’s training camp runs June 27-July 1on hard courts in Boca Raton, Fla., and will be coached by USTA National Coach Sarah Taylor.
Jones most recently participated in the NCAA singles championships where she lost in the first round. Last month she picked up the league’s highest honor, being named Mountain West Conference Player of the Year after compiling a perfect 8-0 mark in conference matches. She finished the season with a 17-4 record playing at the number one singles position for the Cougars where she registered 13 victories over ranked opponents during the 2009-10 campaign.
The USTA Summer Collegiate Team is an elite training program for the top American collegiate tennis players and is administered by the USTA and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). It is designed to provide college players with valuable exposure to the USTA Pro Circuit in a team-oriented environment during the summer months.
