BYU Women's Volleyball - A Paradigm Shift

"There comes a time when winter asks what you did all summer" For the scholar-athletes in our volleyball program that time is now. Our commitment must meet the expectations of this administration and the expectations of each other. The bar has been raised, and preparations need to be made now. Those preparations are already in progress.

"The key to a leader’s effectiveness is his or her ability to build a team." As a family we can respond in unison, together. Such leadership is needed for this team to achieve, continue to develop and create an identity.

"When a young person starts trying to be the best he or she can possibly be because of a game, then the game matters." The emphasis must be placed upon the process rather than the result. I believe in our current process. The systems are sound, based upon principles and backed by research. Success will come because our athletes have bought into the process. This has already begun.

"Because this is OUR Team" Our team is more important than any one individual. Ownership of this team belongs to everyone who is willing to go to work, put in the time and share the burden. As a culture of ownership develops, so does a willingness to serve those around them.

"Coaching is about relationships" If you want to be a good coach, then be of service to your team. Relationships are important and they take time. There is no better way to serve the scholar-athletes than to give them your time. You can learn so much about their life just by taking the time to listen.
