PROVO -- For the BYU women's volleyball team, spring means more than just sunshine and sandals. It also signals a return to competition as the Cougars will play on four different occasions over the next month. The spring schedule begins this week with a scrimmage at BYU and will culminate with a tournament at San Diego on April 5.
"We're very excited to be together and start playing," said BYU head coach Shay Goulding. "This is the start of a new era of BYU women's volleyball. Our spring play will be good preparation for next fall."
The events will give the Cougars a chance to flex their muscles after a busy winter of practice. Senior middle blocker Rachel Dyer headlines the BYU returnees after receiving AVCA All-America honorable mention last year. The Cougars will see some new faces on the sidelines as Goulding enters her first season as the BYU head coach.
BYU will begin spring play this Thursday hosting Utah Valley University in the Smith Fieldhouse. On March 22nd, the Cougars will play at Utah State followed by a March 28th scrimmage at Weber State. BYU will conclude spring play on April 5th at a tournament hosted by San Diego along with Arizona and UC Irvine.
