Warner Leads in the Win Over Wyoming

LARAMIE -- Winning sets one, four and five, the BYU women’s volleyball team (14-15, 9-6 MWC) defeated Wyoming (22-9, 7-8 MWC) 3-2 (25-22, 23-25, 17-25, 25-16, 15-9) Wednesday night.

"We're very excited about the win, the girls played extremely well in the fourth and fifth set," BYU head coach Shay Goulding said. "Wyoming played a great match, but we were able to change our momentum and energy and we stayed strong."

Stephanie Snow let it snow over the Cowgirls posting 15 kills on .619 hitting while Christina Measom tallied 12 and Jennifer Hamson earned 10. Kiana Rogers chalked up 41 assists and 14 digs while libero Kendalyn Hartsock finished with 15 digs.

"Stephanie was unstoppable for us tonight and made some crucial plays when we needed her," Goulding said.

Nicole Warner earned a career-high 13 total blocks with one solo block and 12 blocking assists.

The Cougars got out to a 4-0 start in the first set, but soon found the Cowgirls knotting the score at four-all. The set continued to go back and forth, Wyoming leading for the majority of the set, but the Cougars bounced back from a 21-17 deficit to post an 8-1 run ending the first set. With kills from Carpenter, Hamson and Warner, the Cougars finished off set one 25-22.

The second set started identically to the first, with six different lead changes until being tied at 23. Two-straight Cowgirl kills gave set two to Wyoming, 25-23.

In set three, BYU quickly fell behind, getting up to nine points behind at the end of the set, falling 25-17.

Six-straight points led by Measom with two kills in the fourth set earned the Cougars an 18-11 lead. After three Wyoming points, Measom tallied another kill and assisted in back-to-back blocks with Warner to put the Cougars up seven at 21-14. Two Hamson kills finished off set four 25-16, sending the match to five.

Carpenter began the scoring for the Cougars in set five, and after two Wyoming errors, Snow brought the score to 4-2, forcing a Cowgirl timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Hamson knocked down a service ace followed by two more Wyoming errors, the Cougars getting up 7-3. After four more kills by Snow, the Cougars defeated the Cowgirls 15-9.

BYU will next travel to Colorado State Friday for the last match of the season at 7 p.m. MT.
