PROVO, Utah – With goals from six players, No. 6 BYU women’s soccer tallied its ninth shutout of the season against West Coast Conference foe Pacific, 6-0, Saturday night at South Field.

BYU vs. Pacific Box Score

“I challenged the team to come out as strong as they did last game,” BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood said. “We got out to a great start with an early goal and then we kept on going. We’ve always thought a strength of our team is our depth. We’ve got a lot of ways that we can score and that’s nice knowing you don’t have to rely on only one or two players.”

The Cougars scored three goals in the first half and three goals in the second half. BYU (12-0-1, 2-0-1 WCC) outshot Pacific (3-10-0, 0-3-0 WCC) 28 to three.

With a BYU kickoff to start the game, the Cougars controlled the possession as they made their way down the field. A quick goal from Hermann Trophy nominee Mikayla Colohan put BYU up 1-0 against the Tigers, just two minutes into the game. Lizzy Braby fed the ball to Rachel Bingham Lyman, who then crossed it into the box where Colohan connected with the back of the net.

Keeping the ball on Pacific’s half of the field, Cameron Tucker ripped a shot off an assist by Colohan at the 30-minute mark. With momentum on BYU’s side, the Cougars quickly regained possession and Braby scored the third goal for BYU 25 seconds later.

At halftime, the Cougars held a 14-2 shot advantage while Sabrina Davis tallied a save in goal.

Pacific upped their defense in the second half and kept BYU from scoring until the 69th minute. Colohan made a pass into the 18-yard box to Braby, who crossed the ball in front of the goal where SaraJayne Affleck connected to increase BYU’s lead to 4-0 over the Tigers.

Three minutes later, an assist from Hermann Trophy nominee Elise Flake put the ball at Ashton Brockbank’s feet. She one-touched a shot through multiple Pacific defenders and connected with the lower-left corner of the net for a 5-0 advantage.

Makaylie Moore scored her first goal of the season as she headed the ball over the hands of the Tigers' goalkeeper, putting BYU up 6-0 with 10 minutes left in the game with Kendell Petersen recording the assist.

The Cougars return to South Field on Friday, Oct. 18, where they continue conference play against Saint Mary’s. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. MDT with a live broadcast on the WCC Network and radio broadcasts on BYU Sports Network, 107.9 FM and ESPN 960 AM/ESPN 960 App.

Game Notes

  • Makaylie Moore scored her first goal of the season in the 80th minute of the game.
  • With the win, the Cougars have had nine shutouts this season.
  • With 28 shots on goal, BYU was one shot shy of matching their season-high.
  • The Cougars were one goal away from matching their season-high of 7 goals in a game.
  • SaraJayne Affleck scored her second goal of the season, finding the back of the net in back-to-back games.

PROVO, Utah – The No. 4 BYU women's soccer team returns to South Field to host West Coast Conference opponents Pepperdine and Pacific this week.

LAST TIME ON THE FIELD. BYU opened WCC action at Santa Clara last week and walked away with a 2-2 draw. After the Broncos scored a pair of goals in the first half to take a 2-0 lead the Cougars fought back to take the game into overtime. Sophomore Ashton Brockbank scored just before halftime after a scramble in the box and then junior Cameron Tucker tied the game in the 68th minute off a through ball. Neither team was able to score in overtime as the conference co-favorites each earned a point.
