PROVO -- Sophomore Mark Chay and Senior Scott Randall were named Mountain West Conference swimmer and diver of the week after their performances against Wyoming and the Air Force Academy over the weekend. The title is Chay's second straight and Randall's fifth time being honored.
In Friday's meet with the Falcons Chay swam away with a first place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.47 (second best in the MWC). Chay also swam the lead off leg of the 400 medley relay that placed first with a time of 3:22.21.
Chay continued his wins in the pool against Wyoming with an NCAA provisional qualifying time and first place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:39.01. Chay also swam the lead off leg of the 200 medley relay team that placed first with a time of 1:30.94. Chay ended his competitions of the weekend with a second place finish in the 100 back, finishing at 52.99.
Randall's lowest placing of the weekend was a second place finish on the 1-meter board against Wyoming with a score of 198.95, 4.9 points out of first place. Randall placed first on the 3-meter board against the Cowboys (213.35) and first place finishes on both the 1-M and 3-M against the Falcons with scores of 213.55 and 195.15.
The Cougars will travel to Salt Lake on Friday to face the Utes for the regular season Mountain West Conference title. The meet will begin at 6 p.m. at Ute Natatorium.
