COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --ý (Dec. 18, 2006) - BYU senior guard Mallary Gillespie has been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, earning her first career honor.

The Vineyard, Utah, native set career highs with 30 points and eight three-pointers during 29 minutes of play in the Cougars' 79-42 win over Weber State Thursday. She was 11-for-17 from the field and 8-for-12 from three-point range, just one made three-pointer shy of BYU's record held by All-American and WNBA player Erin Thorn. Her 30 points led all scorers as she helped the Cougars net a season high 79 points. She also collected five rebounds, two assists and two steals.

In Saturday's 71-57 win over UVSC, Gillespie led the Cougars with a team-high 14 points. She also grabbed five rebounds and dished out five assists. For the week, she shot 51.9 percent from the field (14-27) and 52.9 percent from beyond the arc (9-17). She also connected on seven of eight free throw attempts and brought down 10 rebounds.
