Third baseman Steve Parker of BYU was named Wednesday to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team by Collegiate Baseball magazine.
Parker, from American Fork, batted .347 with 13 doubles and 38 RBI. Last month he was named Mountain West Conference Co-Freshman of the Year and selected to the MWC All-Tournament Team.
"He is one of our main contributors for the future and performed very, very well in the middle of our lineup," said BYU Coach Vance Law of Parker.
Parker finished the season with a current 11-game hitting streak. He had an on-base percentage of .443 which ranked fifth in the league.
Past Cougars named Freshmen All-American include Jordan Muir, currently pitching for BYU; Sean McNaughton, returning later this year from a Church mission; Matt Carson, Dave Jensen, Spencer Oborn, Justin Su'a, Jeff Stone, Brett McDermaid, and Brad Winget.
