When BYU announced it was going independent in football, one of the driving forces was an opportunity for national exposure through a partnership with ESPN and BYU Broadcasting. The Cougars also sought better access to television games for its national fan base and the opportunity to schedule high-profile opponents.

Since embarking on football independence beginning with the 2011 season, BYU has faced over 30 different teams from 20 different states, representing 12 different conferences and fellow independent Notre Dame. BYU has nearly 40 future games scheduled with teams from the Power 5 conferences. The map below represents the teams and locations BYU has played since 2011, along with future opponents on the schedule.
