Lauren Anderson – Soccer – Freshman – Danville, Calif.
Anderson continued to contribute for the Cougars, having a goal and an assist in each of the two games this week. Anderson assisted Kassidy Christensen for the first score against Utah State, and later received an assist from Christensen when she scored later in the game. In the Utah game, Anderson assisted Katie Fellows Hodgkiss on her goal after scoring the third goal of the game on a long-range shot. She leads the team with seven assists, and is tied for third with two goals.
McKinzie Olson – Soccer – Freshman – Cottonwood Heights, Utah
Olson continued to be consistent in goal for the Cougars, working hard and not allowing a goal in either game, despite facing constant pressure. Olson has not allowed a goal since Sept. 26, and has provided the Cougars with another strong key for the defense. The two shutouts this week bring her season total to 6.
Austin Collie – Football – Junior – El Dorado Hills, Calif.
All-American candidate Austin Collie had eight catches for 132 yards and two touchdowns, leading No. 8 BYU to a 34-14 victory over in-state rival Utah State. Collie has two touchdown passes and more than 100 yards receiving in each of the last three games (UCLA, Wyoming, Utah State), giving him a team-leading seven TD catches and 518 receiving yards for the season.
Facing a third-and-six on the opening drive of the game from the BYU 24-yard line, Max Hall found Collie on a curl route. After making the catch Collie made a move and raced 76 yards down the sideline for a touchdown and BYU’s longest reception of the year.
Five of Collie’s eight receptions converted first downs for BYU, including four in the 1st and third quarters when BYU did all its scoring. Collie accounted for five of the Cougars nine third-down conversions in the game.
Collie accounted for 132 of the Cougars’ 303 receiving yards (44 percent of the passing offense), in a game where seven BYU receivers caught passes. With 1:26 to play in the third quarter, Collie hauled in a second touchdown pass from Hall to give BYU a 34-0 lead.
Collie is leading the MWC in receptions per game (7th nationally), second in yards per game (8th nationally), second in touchdowns, fifth in scoring and sixth in all-purpose yards.
Matt Bauman – Football – Junior – Salt Lake City, Utah
Junior linebacker Matt Bauman led a Cougar defense that held Utah State scoreless for the first three quarters of a 34-14 BYU victory. Through three quarters the Aggies were held to 49 yards rushing on 29 carries and had just 169 yards of total offense.
Bauman led BYU in four defensive categories, including solo tackles (6) total tackles (7), sacks (1) and fumble recoveries (1). He was also second on the team in tackles for loss with two.
Bauman’s fumble recovery in the second quarter led to a field goal that gave the Cougars a 17-0 lead with 1:23 to play in the first quarter.
Bauman leads BYU on the season with 38 tackles, including a team-best 21 solo and 17 assisted. He also leads the Cougars with six tackles for loss.
The Academic All-Mountain West Conference linebacker is currently in the top 10 in the MWC in tackles and tackles for loss.
Natalia Jimenez – Golf – Senior – Bogota, Colombia
Jimenez is leading a young Cougar golf team to respectable finishes in the two tournaments they have participated in. Currently tied for ninth place overall in a strong Mountain West Conference field, she owns the team’s lowest stroke average at 74.50 and shot a season-low 71 in both the first and second rounds of the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colo.
As the team’s lone senior, Jimenez started the season off well as she placed No. 15 in the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic with a score of even-par 216. She completed the first and second rounds of the tournament at a respectable –1 71.
Jimenez also showed consistency throughout the Dick McGuire Invitational in New Mexico, making a +4 77 in every round to finish at +12 231, good for a finish at No. 39 overall.
Maggie Yuan – Golf – Freshman – Cengdu, Sichuan, China
Freshman Maggie Yuan is off to a good start for a young Cougar golf team, helping the team to two tenth-place finishes in both of its tournaments. In the first six rounds of her young career, Yuan is tied at the No. 12 overall in the Mountain West Conference standings and has the team’s second-lowest stroke average of 75.33.
Yuan shot a season-low 70 in the second round of the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic where she finished at +6 222, completing the tournament at the No. 34 spot overall.
In the Dick McGuire Invitational, Yuan came back from a +8 81 in the first round to make par-73 in the second round, ending at +11 overall in 35th place.
