Daniel Hwang - Men's Tennis - Sophomore - Plano, Texas
Daniel Hwang went 4-0 on the weekend in road matches against No. 75 Southern Mississippi and No. 53 Nebraska. The sophomore notched wins in both singles. Hwang contributed to BYU’s 6-1 win over Southern Miss and brought the Cougars within one point in their 4-3 loss to Nebraska. He and partner Thomas Shubert were the only pair to go undefeated on the weekend.
Steve Parker - Baseball - Junior - American Fork, Utah
Junior third baseman Steve Parker raised his batting average from .295 to .329 with an .833 slugging percentage in his three games last week. His one-out, two-run homer was a towering 420-foot blast into a tall pine tree at Cal St. Northridge to give BYU its first lead at 4-1 in the third, a lead the Cougars would never lose.
His two-out, two-run single up the middle in the 8th was the game-winning RBI which put BYU ahead, 3-2 in the Friday night game at SDSU. He did not play in the final game at SDSU because he injured his leg catching an inning-ending foul ball on Friday night to stop an 8th-inning rally with two out and men on the corners.
In game one at SDSU he hit a one-out double down the leftfield line and ended up scoring BYU’s fourth run of that game. He was intentionally walked to load the bases in the two-run ninth inning of game one at SDSU.
Jeremy Toole - Baseball - Junior - Huntsville, TexasJunior pitcher Jeremy Toole ended up the winning pitcher in the 6-2 victory at San Diego State. Toole kept BYU in the game and benefited from BYU’s three double plays to pick up his fourth victory of the season against one loss. He threw six scoreless innings. He lowered his ERA from 3.58 to 3.28. He closed the first, second, third innings by striking out Aztecs swinging with runners aboard each of those innings and an inning-ending strike out looking in the seventh. In the 8th inning he was able to retire the Aztecs in order thanks to a double play. SDSU had five runners left on base while Toole was on the mound.
