The Top Performers of the Week feature highlights the top athletes of each sport currently in play. Check back each week to see which athletes are standing out in Cougar sports.

Jackson Emery – Men's Basketball – Junior – Alpine, Utah

Jackson Emery led BYU to conference wins at Air Force (67-49) and at home against then 2-0 Colorado State (91-47). For the week Emery averaged 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.5 steals while shooting .579 from the field and .429 from three. At Air Force he posted a game-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting — including 5-of-10 from three — while adding five rebounds, three assists, one block and two steals. He started the game with a three and a jumper to give the Cougars a 5-2 lead. He added a three to give BYU a 17-16 lead and then scored a layup and assisted a three late in the half to give the Cougars a five-point lead at the break. In the second half he scored eight-straight points on two threes and a layup off a steal to give BYU a 49-33 lead. Later he hit a three to put the Cougars ahead 58-37, its first 20-point lead of the game. At home against Colorado State Emery posted seven points, three rebounds and three steals. He helped the Cougars get out to an early lead with a three for a 6-2 lead. In the second half he helped BYU pull away with a steal and dunk for a 42-22 lead. He added two more steals in the second half and hit a jumper for BYU's first 30-point lead at 68-38.

Coriann Wood – Women's Basketball – Junior – Basin City, Wash.

Coriann led the team in scoring with 21 points in the win over CSU on 1/16/10 to keep the Cougars undefeated in league play with a 3-0 record. Against the Rams she led all scorers, tallying 13 of those points in the first half. Also in the first period she was perfect from three-point range going 3-3 to finish the game 4-6 from behind the arc, and she finished the contest 5-of-6 from the free throw line. The 21 points were season and career highs and it was Wood’s ninth double figure outing of the year and her 18th overall. In the league game at home against the Air Force Academy on Wednesday, Jan. 13, she scored six points, dished out three assists and two steals to help BYU capture a 77-46 victory over the Falcons.

Cassidy Mears – Men's Tennis – Senior – Shawnee, Kan.

Senior Cassidy Mears went 4-for-4 in BYU's opening weekend against Weber State and Utah State. He and partner Thomas Shubert clinched the doubles point in both matches at the No. 1 spot. Mears also easily defeated his opponents in straight sets at the No. 3 position. With these wins Mears continues his winning streak that ended last season with 14. The captains' now 16-match streak is unequaled in the last 10 years of BYU men's tennis.

Megan Donehue – Gymnastics – Senior – Bountiful, Utah

In the opening gymnastics meet of the season against Southern Utah University Cougar senior Megan Donehue won the bars (9.800) and beam (9.825) events. Donehue also placed second in the individual all-around for the meet with a score of 29.275. She competed on three of the four events.

Andrew Stewart – Men's Volleyball – Senior – Sandy, Utah

Senior outside hitter Stewart led the No. 5 Cougars to consecutive sweeps over Pacific in their home-opener last weekend. He knocked down a team-high nine kills on Friday with a .421 attack percentage. He also recorded seven blocks, including a solo to secure a win in the second set. Stewart's performance on Saturday included 10 kills, seven digs and four blocks. He capped his strong offensive performance with one final swing to secure the overall win.

Rachel Grant – Women's Swimming – Junior – Walnut, Calif.

Rachel Grant earned more points than any other Cougar over the two days of fierce competition against SDSU and Colorado State. She earned a total of 67 points in two days.

Tawni Jones – Women's Diving – Senior – Mesa, Ariz.

Jones beat out Stephanie Ortiz of Wyoming's score of 311.47 which was the top diving score of the MWC 2009-10 season with a 311.55, her best score on the 1-meter of the season. She had the best dual meet week of the season, also tallying her best score on the 3-meter board against Colorado State, earning a 333.68 on the 3-meter board, her best previously being a 325.65.
