PROVO, Utah (June 19, 2016)—Designated hitter Colton Shaver of BYU has been named Rawlings Third-Team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

The 6-foot-1 sophomore from Riverton, Utah via Jordan High School, was named last week to the West ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first team. Shaver was also selected by coaches as Second-Team All-West Coast Conference.

Shaver led BYU in RBI with 57 overall and 30 in WCC games. He batted .335 for the season and also led the team overall with 10 home runs, a .582 slugging average and 39 bases on balls, six of which were intentional. He had five-game winning RBI in 2016.

"Colton was a mainstay in our lineup this year and a key reason we won 37 games," BYU coach Mike Littlewood said.

Shaver was a Freshman All-American who participated in the Home Run Derby at TD Ameritrade Ballpark in 2015. He has hit 23 home runs in his two-year Cougar career and is currently playing summer ball in the Cape Cod League for the Wareham Gateman.

Shaver’s BYU teammate Michael Rucker was named earlier this month as a Third-Team All-American selection by Collegiate Baseball Magazine and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
