SANDY, Utah – BYU football head coach Kalani Sitake was named Communicator of the Year at the 29th Annual Golden Spike Awards at Rio Tinto Stadium Thursday night.
“It is an honor to receive this award,” Sitake said. “It’s truly an honor for me. I’ve said it before that I’m the product of the hard work of other people around me and their sacrifices. Me being here is a huge compliment to the people in my life.”
The Golden Spike Awards competition is an annual program that recognizes excellence and best practices in public relations and business communications in Utah. Individual awards including Communicator of the Year, Professional Communicator of the Year, Mid-Level Communicator of the Year and Young Professional Communicator of the Year are selected by an online call for nominees, screened for meeting the award criteria and then voted on by the 2016 Golden Spike Awards Organized Committee.
Along with Sitake, the other individual award winners were announced. The Young Professional of the Year was Allie Jurkatis, Mid-Level Professional of the Year was Bethany Hyatt and Professional of the Year was Chris Thomas.
The BYU public relations program, Bradley Public Relations, was also recognized, winning the Golden Spike Award in the social media for profit category.
