PROVO, Utah - The first official event for the newly independent BYU football team takes place on July 12 when the school conducts a national media day from the BYUtv Broadcasting Building on the Provo, Utah, campus.

The Cougars became a football independent on July 1 after becoming the first program in the nation to sign an exclusive television agreement with ESPN. BYU also operates its own television network—BYUtv—which is available in more than 55 million homes in North America on DirecTV, Dish Network and nearly 600 cable TV providers.

Media attending BYU Football Media Day will have opportunities to conduct interviews with BYU coaches, student-athletes and administrators as well as prominent Cougar alumni and television executives from BYUtv and ESPN. Additionally, a session is scheduled with West Coast Conference officials and coaches and student-athletes from other BYU sports that officially joined the West Coast Conference on July 1.

In addition to the various interview sessions taking place for those attending BYU Football Media Day, two sessions will be broadcast live on BYUtv and online at ESPN3.com or byutv.org. Live online video chats with current student-athletes and former players will also be streamed at byutv.org throughout the day, including three chats in Spanish. BYUtv will also air two hour-long specials previewing the 2011 season during the day (see broadcast schedule below).
