BYU to host Seattle Pacific in exhibition Saturday

PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball will host Seattle Pacific Saturday in the Marriott Center at 7 p.m. MST in the team’s final test before the regular season opens next week.

The Cougars defeated Colorado School of Mines 82-64 at home on Nov. 1 in the team’s first of two exhibitions. Senior guard Tyler Haws led all scorers with 29 points on 12 of 19 shooting from the field. Chase Fischer (13 points), Jake Toolson (12) and Dalton Nixon (10) also scored in double figures while Isaac Neilson had a team-best 10 rebounds and Skyler Halford dished out a seven assists.

Seattle Pacific, an NCAA Division II program that plays in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, opened its exhibition schedule Tuesday with a 77-59 win over Pacific Lutheran behind 25 points from Cory Hutsen. A 6-foot-8 senior forward, Hutsen is the team’s leading returning scorer after averaging 10.8 points per game last season. He helped the Falcons to a 26-6 record and a first-place finish in the GNAC at 15-3. The Falcons were eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Division II tournament.

Saturday’s game will be televised live on BYUtv and broadcast on the Cougar IMG Sports Network on KSL Newsradio 102.7 FM and 1160 AM. The regular season begins Friday, Nov. 14, when the Cougars host Long Beach State at 5 p.m. MST in the Marriott Center.
