PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball fans were introduced to the 2015-16 men’s and women’s basketball teams on Friday in Boom Shakalaka at the renovated Marriott Center.

Men’s and women’s players took part in a skills competition and a 3-point contest before the men participated in a dunk contest and a King of the Court scrimmage.

“It was awesome,” sophomore guard Jake Toolson said. “We just wanted to get out here and have fun with our fans. The taste is in our mouth now and we’re ready for the season.”

Senior point guard Kylie Maeda won the women’s skills competition hitting her first 3-point attempt in the finals to top Micaelee Orton. Redshirt freshman guard Jordan Chatman won the men’s skills competition with a flawless final run to outpace sophomore guard Cory Calvert.

The combo of Toolson and Lexi Eaton Rydalch won the 3-point contest after needing an extra round of shooting. Toolson and Rydalch totaled the first round high of 29, while Chase Fischer and Makenzi Morrison Pulsipher finished with 28 to advance to the finals.

In the finals, both teams hit 30 to force two more racks for the title. Rydalch and Toolson hit their final shots to give them 12 to Fischer and Pulsipher’s nine.

In the dunk competition, Corbin Kaufusi won the fan vote, while Braiden Shaw was the judges pick to advance to the final. Shaw tried to jump over Cooper Ainge three times with no luck before landing a spinning dunk before time ran out.

Kaufusi hit a double clutch dunk before landing a reverse dunk on an alley-oop from Cosmo.

In the King of the Court scrimmage, the team of Nick Emery, Chatman, Toolson, Kyle Davis and Nate Austin didn’t lose on its way to the title. They won 8-5 in both their games, while Toolson scored six in the final game to end with 10 points.

On other teams, Elijah Bryant and Fischer scored seven points each, while Kaufusi led all players with seven rebounds and one block.
