SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Joe Parkinson tied sixth to lead the BYU men's golf team to a second place standing after two rounds of the Cowboy Classic on Monday.

"Cole and Jordan [Hammer] were clutch and kept us in the tournament," BYU men's golf coach Bruce Brockbank said. "Joe Parkinson played extremely well today and he continues to step up and shoot great scores. It's a perfect example of guys hanging in there and good things happening to them as they finish. That was really impressive and they gave us a chance to go out tomorrow and beat some good teams."

The Cougars tied with Colorado at 1-over-par and trail No. 11 Oklahoma by one stroke. Rival Utah trailed BYU by a single stroke to take fourth place in the 21-team tournament.

Parkinson finished 3-under-par with a total of eight birdies on the day to tie in fifth, while Cole Ogden completed the first two rounds at 2-under-par and seven birdies. Ogden's second round score of 67 was a team low and tied in ninth place.

Jordan Hammer tied for 11th place and finished 1-under-par with an eagle in the 17th hole of the second round and six birdies for the day.

Jordan Rodgers tied in 58th place at 8-over-par with three birdies and Justin Keiley tied in 79th place at 11-over-par with a single birdie.

BYU returns to action for the final round at Talking Stick Golf Club with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. PST. Live stats can be found on the schedule page, here
