Cougars ready for Oregon Twilight, Ward Haylett Invitational

PROVO, Utah – The BYU track and field team will compete on Friday, May 7 at the Oregon Twilight in Eugene, Oregon, and Saturday, May 8 at the Ward Haylett Invitational in Manhattan, Kansas.

The BYU men’s and women’s distance squads will race on Friday at Hayward Field in the Oregon Twilight meet. Members of the Cougars’ sprints, hurdles and jumps squad will compete Saturday at the RV Christian Track in the Ward Haylett Invitational.

At the Oregon Twilight, BYU will race against athletes primarily from Adams State, Eastern Oregon, Oregon, Oregon State, Portland, Santa Barbara, Southern Oregon, Washington State, Western Oregon and various professional clubs.

At the Ward Haylett Invitational, the Cougars will compete against Kansas and Kansas State.

The BYU men’s team held steady at No. 2 in this week’s U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national ratings while the BYU women’s team jumped 13 spots to No. 9, reclaiming a spot in the top 10.

The BYU men’s team entered the week with the top-ranked 1500m squad and 3000m steeplechase squad, according to the USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings. The Cougars also have the No. 2 5000m squad, No. 3 10,000m squad, No. 4 javelin squad, No. 4 pole vault squad, No. 4 high jump squad, No. 4 decathlon squad (BYU men’s track and field performance list).

The women’s team currently has the top-ranked 1500m squad and 10,000m squad in the USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings. The Cougars also have the No. 2 800m squad, No. 2 steeplechase squad, No. 2 javelin squad, No. 2 heptathlon squad and No. 6 high jump squad (BYU women’s track and field performance list).
