TOWSON, Md. – Seniors Miles Batty of Brigham Young University and Chanelle Price of the University of Tennessee headline the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Men’s and Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Batty is a repeat selection as the Academic All-America® of the Year on the men’s side while Price was named as the Academic All-America® of the Year for the women.
A neuroscience and exercise science double major with a 3.93 G.P.A., Batty is the first scholar-athlete to repeat as the Divison I Academic All-America® of the Year in men’s track and field/cross country. Fritz Nugent of Redlands accomplished the feat in 2007 and 2008 in the College Divison.
Batty is also one of six repeat selections on the Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Men’s and Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country first team. A native of Sandy, Utah, Batty is a two-time NCAA national champion and a six-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-American.
Last fall in cross country, Batty was named to the All-West Coast Conference team and was the WCC individual champion. He was also named Mountain Region Athlete of the Year after winning the Mountain Region championship and turned in a 14th-place finish at the 2011 NCAA championship en route to All-America honors.
During the indoor season, Batty broke the NCAA indoor mile record by almost half a second at the Millrose Games and was named as the Mountain Region Track Athlete of the Year. He earned All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor championships by finishing third in both the mile and the distance medley relay.
During the spring, Batty placed second and earned All-America honors in the 1,500 meters at the NCAA Outdoor championship. He was recently awarded the NCAA Walter Byers Postgraduate Scholarship, the most prestigious academic award given by the NCAA.
Price, a middle distance runner at Tennessee, majors in journalism and electronic media with a minor in business administration and a 3.93 G.P.A. The recipient of an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, she was an eight-time NCAA All-American during her college career. A native of Easton, Pa., she ran on a pair of national champion distance medley relay teams.
A five-time Southeastern Conference champion, Price owns a pair of world records, three American and collegiate marks, and four UT marks. She is a six-time NCAA scorer and placed in SEC competition in 14 meets. Price was a six-time champion at the prestigious Penn Relays and she was selected as the 2011 SEC Track & Field Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year. Price led the Lady Vols to a ninth place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championship Meet, their best showing since 2005.
