PROVO, Utah – After sweeping the competition last week, No. 22/23 BYU softball will play Southern Utah on Tuesday at 2 p.m. MDT in Cedar City, Utah.
Last week, BYU (27-10, 3-0 West Coast Conference) beat Utah State and swept Loyola Marymount in a three-game series. The Cougars will play another in-state foe on Tuesday against the Thunderbirds (9-20, 5-4 Big Sky).

BYU storylines
- BYU plays its third in-state game of the season at Southern Utah on Tuesday. The Cougars are 2-0 so far this year, defeating Utah and Utah State. BYU will play three more in-state teams after Tuesday’s game against the Thunderbirds. These two teams will also play in Provo next week on April 19.
In the NCAA, BYU ranks No. 19 in fielding percentage. Individually, McKenna Bull is in the top 20 in three different categories: No. 6 in victories, No. 9 in shutouts and No. 20 in strikeouts.
Opponent outlook
Southern Utah (9-20, 5-4 Big Sky)
- The Thunderbirds have struggled this season, but they took the series 2-1 at Portland State last weekend. They also swept a conference series against Northern Colorado earlier this season.
- In 2016, BYU and Southern Utah played three games with the Thunderbirds taking two of three, including one in Provo. The Cougars hold the 49-7 series lead in the history between the two schools.
