PROVO -- Returning from tournaments with a winning record two weeks in a row, No. 25 BYU (9-1) looks to face five teams, including No. 1 Washington, and No. 2 Arizona, at the Cathedral City Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. beginning Thursday.

“We are looking forward to competing in this tournament as we play some of the toughest teams we face all season,” BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. “We will have to work for our wins, and this tournament will really show us what we are made of. I have no doubt that we will do great.”

The Cathedral City Classic is one of the premiere Division I softball tournaments in the country, with nine ranked teams from top-25 polls participating.

The Cougars lead off their tournament play with a double header against Oklahoma St. on Thursday at 1 p.m. (PST), and then No. 1 Washington at 8:30 p.m. (PST). This will be the second year in a row BYU has faced a No. 1 ranked team in this tournament as last year they faced then ranked No. 1 Alabama.

BYU will return to the field the next day, Friday, for another doubleheader against Cal Poly SLO at 12:30 p.m. (PST) followed by its second ranked team, No. 2 Arizona, at 3 p.m. (PST).

The Cougars wrap up their Cathedral Classic by playing Long Island at 10 a.m. (PST) on Saturday and then head home.
