ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (April 15, 2010) - With one of the best winning records in BYU softball history, the Cougars (28-8, 3-0) continue their winning streak by beating New Mexico 10-5 Thursday night.
Caschjen Atagi and Delaney Willard lead the Cougars offensive attack with three RBI each.
Atagi helped contribute to BYU's four runs in the first when she singled to center bringing J.C. Clayton home. Atagi later agitated the Lobos' defense in the seventh with a two-run homer over the center field wall.
Willard performed in a similar manner with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, and then a two-run homer of her own in the seventh.
Together, Atagi and Willard accounted for all four runs in the seventh inning, and were the catalyst of six out of the Cougars ten runs in the game.
Andrea Ramirez and Jessica Fitu brought home the remaining BYU runs.
Ramirez, with her two RBI on the night, continues to lead the team in scoring and RBI with 47. This ties her previous season record from 2009, and with 17 games left in the season, Ramirez is well on her way to become one of BYU's top scorers.
The current record for the most single season RBI is currently held by BYU's All-American Fitu with 83. This record was also set in 2009.
Paige Affleck tallied yet one more win giving her a season record of 21-6. Affleck has pitched in, and won all of BYU's conference wins as well.
BYU returns to the field Friday to face Colorado State at 4 p.m. (MST.)
