Cougar women host Eastern Washington Saturday

PROVO, UT— BYU (1-1) rounds out its three-game home stretch hosting Eastern Washington (1-1) this Saturday, Nov. 17, at 1 p.m. MST. The Cougars and Eagles game will have a live video stream on TheW.tv.

ABOUT BYU

=The Cougars are now 1-1 on the year after a home loss (72-50) to No. 23 Cal on Tuesday

=With two games under their belt, BYU is shooting 36.4 percent from the field, 29.2 percent from the 3-point line and 61.5 percent when going to the charity stripe

=Three players are scoring in double figures for the Cougars, led by 16.0 points a game from sophomore guard Paisley Johnson. Freshman Shaylee Gonzales follows with 14.5 points a contest with teammate junior Brenna Chase contributing 13.0 points a game

=Johnson also leads the way in rebounding with a 9.5 average; in assists Chase tops the stat sheet dishing out 6.0 assists per game; and in the steals category, Johnson is averaging 2.0 per game

=BYU was selected to finish third in the 2018-19 West Coast Conference race.

=Junior Brenna Chase and sophomore Sara Hamson were named to the Preseason ALL-WCC Team

=The team enters the season with 11 underclassmen and just two returning starters.

 

ABOUT EASTERN WASHINGTON

=EWU has a 1-1 record to date after a 66-45 home win over Eastern Oregon. They previously lost at home to Gonzaga 63-51

=Eastern Washington was selected to finish fifth in the preseason media poll and seventh in the coaches’ poll in the Big Sky Conference

=The team returns eight letterwinners including three starters

=The Eagles are averaging 54.0 points per game while shooting 34.9 from the field and 73.5 percent from the free throw line. From 3-point land, EWU shoots 21.9 percent.
