WAHIAWA, Hawaii – The BYU women's golf team lost its first place lead in the final round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational at the Leilehua Golf Course and finished the tournament in second place.

"We didn't do as great as we would have hoped," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "It's not fun to lose. We could have played a lot better in all three rounds. We have some time off before the 2017 season, so we're going to make sure we're ready for that."

The Cougars finished the third round shooting four-over-par, their highest round of golf throughout the tournament. Sacramento State claimed first place as it shot the lowest score of the invitational in the third round with 283 (-5). The Hornets finished shooting one-under-par total, while the Cougars fell to second shooting six-over-par after three rounds of play. Hawaii hung in at third place finishing with a total of 875 (+11).

Sophomore Rose Huang held onto her second place finish as she shot two-under-par in the final round giving her a four-under-par finish. Senior Alexandra White ended the tournament tied for fifth place shooting two-over-par on the day and overall.

"Rose was solid," coach Roberts said. "She was our highlight throughout the tournament. She came up one short though and I know she would have liked to have kept her title."

Kendra Dalton's third round dropped her from being tied for sixth place to a 15th place tie. Dalton shot four-over-par in the third round and finished the competition shooting five-over-par.

Brooklyn Hocker finished the tournament shooting six-over-par while Aiko Leong ended with seven-over-par. Hocker took 17th place and Leong tied for 18th place.

Lauren Atkinson shot an even par in the final round, but it wasn't enough to recover from her second round. Atkinson finished tied for 21st place shooting nine-over-par.

The Rainbow Wahine Invitational was the final tournament of the fall season for the BYU women's golf team. The 2017 regular season begins in late February when the team competes in The Gold Rush, Feb. 27-28, 2017, in Seal Beach, Calif., at the Old Ranch Golf and Country Club.
