Cougars improve on day two in Mexico

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico – The BYU women’s golf team moved up two positions into seventh place after improving by nine strokes on the second day of the Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational on Friday afternoon.

"We were able to manage the wind better today," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "We're hoping to build off today for a strong finish."

After shooting a combined 308 in the first round, the team lowered its score to a 299 in round two. Arizona is still in the lead after posting another two-under day at 286 to match its first-round effort.

Rose Huang leads the Cougars with another two-over (74) and is tied for 12th place.

Also moving up the leaderboard, Naomi Soifua posted BYU's best score of the day with a one-over 73 (+1), besting her mark from yesterday by four strokes. Soifua moved into 19th place overall. She is tied for 19th with teammate, Maria Bernal Clavijo, who is playing as an individual at the tournament, and posted a 79 (+7) today.

Annick Haczkiewicz had a solid outing as well with a 74 (+2) for the round, moving into 31st place. 

Allysha Mae Mateo shot a 79 (+7) to tie for 47th after two rounds and Anna Kennedy a 78 (+6) in round two, leaving her at 56th overall for the tournament.
