PROVO, Utah – BYU women’s soccer got a No. 4 seed for the 2021 NCAA Tournament and will host a matchup on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. MST at South Field against New Mexico.

The game will be broadcast on BYUtv and BYUtv.org/the BYUtv App.

“The team has worked extremely hard this season to have the opportunity to host an NCAA home game," said Jennifer Rockword, BYU head coach. "We anxiously look forward to the New Mexico match on South Field. They have had a successful season, and we will have to be at our very best to advance to the next round.”

This marks BYU women’s soccer’s ninth tourney bid in the last 10 seasons, and BYU has now made the NCAA Tournament in 22 of its 26 seasons as a program. In 2019, the Cougars were ranked No. 2 overall and lost to No. 1 Stanford in the quarterfinal. The other most successful tournament runs were when BYU reached the quarterfinal in 2003 and 2012.

BYU is 12-3-3 all time in NCAA Tournament home games.

“We feel very confident in our first round draw," said Mikayla Colohan, BYU senior and leading scorer. "We are happy to have another opportunity to play at home on South Field in front of the best fans. We are playing at a very high level, and I think it is completely up to us to go further in the tournament than we’ve ever been.”

BYU concluded the 2021 regular season with a 13-4-1 record and won a share of the West Coast Conference Championship with Santa Clara. Santa Clara along with Pepperdine, the team BYU beat in double overtime on Saturday, also received bids to the NCAA Tournament from the WCC.

New Mexico won its first Mountain West Conference Championship in 10 years with a golden goal against Boise State last weekend. The Lobos finished the regular season with a 14-4-2 record.

The Cougars and Lobos have faced each other 21 times with BYU holding a 15-4-2 all-time record over New Mexico. The last times the two teams met was in an infamous, physical double-overtime Mountain West battle at South Field in 2010.

BYU will only host a second-round matchup if No. 1 Virginia loses its first-round matchup.
