Cougars set three top-10 marks at Bryan Clay and Mt. SAC

WALNUT, Calif. — BYU women’s track and field athletes recorded impressive performances at both the Bryan Clay Invitational and the 62nd Annual Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday.

Bryan Clay Invitational
A first-place finish in the 800m helped Halley Folsom Walker close out the heptathlon in second overall, tallying a new personal best 5,699 points to move into fourth all-time in BYU history. The heptathlete’s 800m time (2:07.47) and long jump mark (5.78/18-11.75) were both new personal bests as well.

Lauren Ellsworth-Barnes ran a new personal best 800m time of 2:01.72, moving up a spot from No. 5 to No. 4 in the school record books.

Mt. SAC Relays
Courtney Wayment won the elite invitational heat of the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:26.88. Lexy Halladay placed fifth, running a 9:55.65.

Both athletes set new personal bests in the event, with Wayment’s time being the fourth-best in collegiate history, and Halladay’s landing at No. 7 in program history. Wayment also set the stadium and meet steeplechase record.

Six other women’s distance runners set new personal bests at Hilmer Lodge Stadium: Allie Warner (10:31.71), Madi Moffitt (10:34.44) and Lizzie Dildine (10:43.48 ) in the collegiate heat of the 3000m steeplechase, and Anna Martin (34:13.94), Rachel Morrin (35:20.23) and Haley Johnston (35:39.91) in the 10,000m.

National Rankings
As of Thursday night, Folsom Walker's heptathlon score, Ellsworth-Barnes' 800m time and both Wayment and Halladay's steeplechase times put them in the top-10 nationally. Ellsworth-Barnes and Wayment appear to hold the top spots in their respective events, nationwide.  

The Cougars will remain at the Bryan Clay Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays on Friday, and will also begin competition at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, beginning with the javelin throw at 9 a.m. PDT. The hammer throw in Walnut is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. PDT, with the 400m at the Invitational in Azusa set for 11:35 a.m.
