Track ends season with 15 All-Americans

NEW ORLEANS – The BYU men’s and women’s track and field teams combined to earn 15 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-America awards following the NCAA Division I Indoor championships.

Nachelle Mackie led the way for the BYU women with a national championship in the 800-meters. Mackie broke the school record in the event with a 2:03.30 finish and earned First Team All-America honors for her performance.

Mackie teamed up with Lacey Bleazard, Sarah Edwards and Katie Palmer and finished sixth in the distance medley relay in 11:09.81. All four athletes earned First Team honors. Palmer was also named a First Team All-American in the 800m after a third place finish in 2:04.56.

Christen Guenther was the lone field athlete to earn All-America honors for the BYU women. She was named to the Second Team after finishing 10th in the pole vault.

On the men’s side, Miles Batty led the way with First Team honors in both the mile and distance medley relay. Batty finished third in the mile in 4:01.86 and paced the DMR team to a third place finish in 9:36.07.

Cade Lindahl, Rex Shields and Ryan Waite earned First Team honors for their performances in the DMR alongside Batty. Lindahl and Waite were also named to the Second Team for their efforts in the 400m and 800m, respectively.

The BYU men also had one athlete earn All-America honors in the field. Victor Weirich earned Second Team honors for his 10th place finish in the pole vault.

Both teams will open the outdoor season on Friday at the San Diego State Invitational.
