Parents are Douglas and Linda Empey...recruited by Utah, Utah State, Oregon State, Arizona State, Washington State, UTEP, Wyoming and California...served a mission San Jose, California, from 1988-90 in the same mission with teammates Elia Faupula and Nathan Hall...married Stephanie Wright in May, 1991...three-time All-WAC Scholar Athlete...majoring in sports medicine.

Before BYU

Lettered in football, basketball, track and wrestling...football honors included three years all-conference, two years all-state and one year All-America...coached at Highland High by Randy Rehrer.

1987 | Freshman Year

Traveled with the varsity.

1991 | Sophomore Year

Participated in spring drills...started at right tackles against Florida State, UCLA and Penn State, then backed up Tom Ladd.

1992 | Junior Year

Started at left guard in BYU's first three games...replaced Eli Herring as starting left tackle at Hawai'i and the remainder of the season...coaches' offensive lineman of the game vs. UCLA.
