Before BYU

While attending Las Vegas High, he captained both the football and baseball teams...was all-state in both sports.

1967 | Sophomore Year

Was number three in team statistics when Cougars were ranked 12th nationally in rushing defense.

1968 | Junior Year

Named WAC lineman of the week following the Wyoming game...scored a total of 28 defensive points (2 unassisted tackles, 10 assists, a recovered fumble, etc.) as the Cougars held the Pokes to one TD for better than three quarters...led the team in defensive statistics...combining sophomore and junior years he was credited with 29 tackles for a loss and recovered six fumbles.
