KAPOLEI, Hawaii – BYU men’s golf is tied for seventh after completing Wednesday’s second round at Kapolei Golf Course. The Cougars carded a 12-under-par, 276, in round two and sit at 23-under for the tournament.

"It was a slow start today with some bad swings early, leading to us slipping behind,” said head coach Bruce Brockbank. "The guys stepped up on the back nine and shot 12-under to keep us in the game.”

Loyola Marymount (276-264—540) carded a tournament-best 24-under-par round to jump into first. Texas State (271-274—545) is in second at 31-under-par, with Baylor (269-277—246) and Florida Gulf Coast (268-278—546) tied for third at 30-under.

"The team played well the last two days, but we need to clean up the bogeys and bad doubles,” said freshman Peter Kim. "Overall, I think we are making enough birdies but have a few too many bogeys.”

Max Brenchley 67-70—137; -7) shot a two-under 70 to sit at seven-under-par in a tie for 19th. Zac Jones (66-72—138; -6) posted an even-par second round on Wednesday to stay at six-under and in a tie for 24th.

Cooper Jones (71-68–139; -5) and Cole Ponich (69-70–139; -5), who is playing as an individual, are in a tie for 31st. Kenau Akina (73-68–141; -3) and Kim (75-70–145; +1) round out the Cougar squad.

"I feel like our guys are going to get off to a hot start in round three and shoot a really low number,” said BYU director of golf Todd Miller.

The Cougars look to move up the leaderboard in Thursday's third and final round, with tee times beginning at 8:45 HT. Live scoring can be found at golfstat.com.
