STILLWATER, Okla. – Turnovers proved costly as BYU fell to Oklahoma State 82-50 at the Gallagher-Iba Arena on Wednesday night.

BYU shot 34.6 percent from the floor and 16.7 percent from behind the arc while the Cowgirls went 45.8 percent from the field and scored 38 points off 25 Cougar turnovers. BYU only scored 26 points in the paint to the Pokes’ 42 in the loss.

For the first time this season, the Cougars only had one player finish in double-figures with Lauren Gustin leading BYU with 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting. She also grabbed 10 rebounds and dished three assists to record her 17th double-double of the year, the 73rd of her career.

Amari Whiting and Kailey Woolston each finished with nine points on 3-for-9 and 4-of-9 shooting, respectively.

1st Quarter

Oklahoma State scored nine-straight points to open the game before a traditional 3-point play by Gustin got the Cougars on the board, trailing 9-3. The Cowgirls would push the lead to 16-5, but back-to-back buckets by Lauren Davenport and Gustin drew BYU within eight.

OSU would hit another layup to secure an 18-8 lead heading to the second quarter. The Cougars had only been held to less than 10 points in the first quarter twice this season; in a win against Montana State in the first game of the season and a loss to Oklahoma.

2nd Quarter

The Pokes and Cougars traded baskets to open the second before a three from Whiting, a free throw by Rose Bubakar and a pull-up jumper from Woolston helped BYU claw within four with 6:19 to play in the half.

After an and-one bucket for the Cowgirls, a Bubakar layup trimmed the lead to five before Oklahoma State closed the half on a 20-2 run over the final 3:35.

3rd Quarter

The Pokes extended the lead to 49-22 with 8:54 to play in the third and would stretch the lead to 29 with 6:45 remaining. A three from Emma Calvert and a fast-break layup by Whiting gave BYU a boost of momentum, but OSU retook a 27-point lead with a late-in-the-shot clock three.

In the final 5:40 of the third, BYU would trail by as many as 30 but trimmed the lead to 25 at the end of the quarter.

4th Quarter

The Cougars went 3-for-14 from the floor and 0-for-5 from behind the loop in the fourth, and weren't able to string enough stops and scores together to draw within striking distance. Oklahoma State closed out an 82-50 win over BYU.
