Cougars take No. 4 Kansas State to the wire, fall 67-65

MANHATTAN, Kan. — The Cougars took the No. 4 Kansas State Wildcats to the wire before falling 67-65 at Bramlage Coliseum on Saturday. 

BYU shot 46.6 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from behind the arc, outshooting K-State from the field, three and the free throw line in the two-point loss. The Cougars made 27 field goals in the game, assisting on 17 of them while Kansas State made 22 field goals and went 13-23 from the charity stripe.

BYU’s 65 points are the second-most given up by K-State in a game this season, second only to Caitlin Clark and the 5th-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes. The Cougar defense held the Wildcats to eight fewer points than their season average and 11.4 percentage points lower than their season field goal percentage.

Lauren Gustin notched her 75th career double-double with a season-high 25 points and 21 rebounds marking the first 20-20 game against an AP Top 25 team by any player in the NCAA this season.

Kailey Woolston and Amari Whiting each finished in double figures with 14 and 10 respectively. Woolston went 6-for-13 from the field, 2-of-4 from downtown with three rebounds and three assists. Whiting was 3-of-7 from the floor, 2-for-3 from behind the loop with four assists, four rebounds, two steals and a block.
