INDIANAPOLIS — BYU men’s swimming opened the 2024 NCAA Swim and Dive Championships with 200 medley relay competition at the IU Natatorium on Wednesday.

Jordan Tiffany, Brad Prolo, Tanner Edwards and Luigi Riva combined to go 1:24.60 and finish 20th. The foursome became the first in program history to reach nationals in the 200 medley relay.

"It was great to see three of our four swimmers today compete in their first time at NCAA Championships," said BYU head swimming coach Shari Skabelund. We had solid performances today and I'm looking forward to see how we race the rest of the week."

Tiffany led off for BYU with a 21.21 in the 50 back followed by Prolo’s 50 breast leg of 23.39. Edwards followed at 20.63 in the 50 fly before Riva anchored the Cougars with 19.37 in the 50 free.

Despite falling short of All-America status in Indianapolis, BYU’s 200 medley relay team capped a historic season in 2023-24. The foursome clocked a school-record 1:24.49 to win at the Mizzou Invitational in Columbia, Missouri on Nov. 16. Tiffany, Prolo, Edwards and Riva tore down their own school record and replaced it with a Big 12 Championship runner-up time of 1:23.67 on Feb. 27.

Competition resumes on Thursday with Jordan Tiffany competing in the 200 individual medley prelims during the meet’s morning session at 10 a.m. EDT on ESPN+.
