BYU falls to Texas Tech 4-0 in Quarterfinals of Big 12 Championship

No. 5 seed BYU women's tennis fell to No. 4 seed Texas Tech 4-0 Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championship.

STILLWATER — No. 5 seed BYU women's tennis fell to No. 4 seed Texas Tech 4-0 Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championship.

With the loss, the Cougars fell to 17-7 on the season as their three-match win streak was halted.

Huang and Sawhney won their 16th doubles match of the season together in BYU's lone victory of the day. 

Doubles:
- No. 7 Komac/Sayfetdinova (TTU) def. No. 41 Astle/Huang (BYU), 6-0
- Huang/Sawhney (BYU) def. Polishchuk/Tiglea (TTU), 6-1
- Lila/Sherif (TTU) def. Wheatley/Li (BYU), 7-6 (3)

The order of finish was 1, 2, 3

After BYU and Texas Tech both split the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches, the doubles point came down to match No. 3 between Wheatley/Li and Lila and Sherif. 

Wheatley and Li were tied with Lila and Sherif 5-5, before the two duos were once again tied at 6-6. In a tiebreak, the Lady Raiders came out on top 7-3, to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

- Maddy Smith (BYU) uf. Andreea Lila (TTU), 6-7 (1), 1-1

The order of finish was 4, 3, 5

Komac won the first singles match of the evening to extend Texas Tech's lead to 2-0 before Sayfetdinova followed winning her match over Kovick to extend the Lady Raiders' lead to 3-0. Dmitrichenko secured the match for Texas Tech with her victory over Wheatley, sending the Lady Raiders to the Big 12 Championship semifinals.  

BYU now awaits its postseason fate as the Cougars will see if they are selected to the NCAA Tournament or the NIT.
