PROVO, Utah — BYU baseball fell to Oklahoma 12-6 in game two of the three game series at a sold out Miller Park on Friday night.

Home runs from Easton Jones and Ryker Schow followed by eight assists from Crew Robison weren’t enough to propel the Cougars to victory as the Sooners used 14 hits to record their 12 runs.

“It just got away from us,” said BYU head coach Trent Pratt. “That’s kind of the game sometimes. We have to keep chipping away and we’ll find a way to come together. They’re a good team, but I know that we can do better. We’ll come ready tomorrow ready to play.”

Player Highlights

  • Easton Jones: 2-4, HR, RBI, 2 runs
  • Ryker Schow: 1-2, HR, RBI
  • Crew Robison: 1-4, 8 Assists

Easton Jones put the Cougars on the board in the bottom of the first with a 426-foot solo home run across the center field wall. The blast marked the sophomore’s 10th home run of the season and 13th of his career.

The Sooners matched the score at one apiece in the top of the second with a solo shot into the trees over the right field wall.

BYU loaded the bases in its half of the frame, but Oklahoma left the Cougars wanting with three quick outs to end the inning.

The Sooners then plated seven in the top of the fourth to take an 8-1 lead.

BYU came within five at 8-3 as it brought in two baserunners in the bottom of the fourth with a two run RBI triple off the center field wall from Luke Anderson. Bryce Robison quickly retired the side in the top of the fifth to send the Sooners to the dugout with no hits and no one on base. BYU then put a runner in scoring position but Oklahoma replicated the Cougars’ effort and sent them back to the dugout without a run.

Ryker Schow launched a solo home run off of the scoreboard outside left field in the bottom of the sixth to give the Cougars their fourth run of the night. The freshman from Pleasant Grove, Utah has now recorded at least one run in four-consecutive games.

The Sooners opened up the top of the seventh with a solo home run on the first pitch to move ahead 9-4 before BYU plated two in the bottom of the seventh. Easton Jones scored from third on a wild pitch to bring in the fifth run for BYU. An RBI groundout from Aloy brought in Reuter moments later.

The top of the eighth saw the Sooners pull away with three runs on four hits.

The Cougars conclude the series against the Sooners with game three on Friday at 1 p.m. MDT. The game will be broadcast live on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and streamed on BYU Radio 107.9/BYU Radio App.
