PROVO, Utah — Cougars add sharpshooting Cal transfer Kemery Martín to BYU women’s basketball’s 2024-25 roster, head coach Amber Whiting announced Friday.

“Kemery is a three-level scorer that will add depth and experience to our young roster,” head coach Amber Whiting said. “She has the ability to shoot it from deep, put it on the deck, get to the rim and she has a high basketball IQ which helps her create for her teammates as well. She is a great fit for our team and will make an immediate impact through her experience and leadership.”

BYU will be Martín’s third and final stop in her six-year college basketball career that began at the University of Utah before a two-year stint at Cal Berkeley. The redshirt senior will play her final season of college basketball for the Cougars who look to improve on their 16-17 2023-24 record.

Martín began her college career playing three seasons for the Utah Utes (2019-22) where she appeared in 58 games, starting 26 and playing 18.5 minutes per game. She averaged 6.6 points, grabbing 1.7 rebounds and dishing 1.3 assists in three seasons with the Utes but had her most productive year during her sophomore campaign.

During the 2021-22 season, Martín was a focal point of the Utah offense as she was the second-leading scorer at 11.1 points per game on 37.8 percent shooting from the field and 33 percent from downtown and was named a Pac-12 All-Conference honorable mention. The sophomore finished with double-digit scoring performances in 13 of 21 games while averaging 2.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists on the year.

After suffering a season-ending injury during the 2021-22 season, Martín transferred to Cal where she played in all 64 games, starting 55 over the last two seasons. As a Golden Bear, Martín scored 8.5 points per game on 36.7 percent shooting, 35.1 percent from downtown while grabbing three rebounds, dishing 1.7 assists and recording nearly a steal per game.

The Sandy, Utah native returns to the state where she was named the 2019 Utah Gatorade Player of the Year and Utah’s Ms. Basketball during her senior year at Corner Canyon High School.
