Summary
A power forward with shooting range on the perimeter, Fernando Malaman made 15 starts in 54 games for BYU, averaging 4.9 points and 2.8 rebounds in his two seasons as a Cougar. He played in 25 games and averaged 9.1 minutes, 2.3 points and 1.9 rebounds per game as a senior in 2006-07 on BYU's Mountain West Conference Championship team. As a junior, he made 15 starts in 2005-06, posting 7.0 points on a team-best .525 shooting from the floor while adding 3.7 rebounds in 21.6 minutes per game. Malaman transferred from Arizona Western College, following in the footsteps of fellow Brazilian big man Rafael Araujo, who played for the Cougars from 2002-04.
