Four Cougs receive CSC Academic All-District honors

Four players from the BYU women’s soccer team received College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, the organization announced Tuesday.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Four players from the BYU women’s soccer team received College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors, the organization announced Tuesday. Erin Bailey, Ellie Boren, Bella Folino and Kendell Petersen all received the honors. 

This is the second year in a row Boren, Folino and Petersen have received Academic All-District honors.

The 2023 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. In order to be nominated, players must average a 3.5 GPA and play 90 percent of the matches or start in 66 percent of the games.

Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Those who are selected for first-, second- and third-team honorees will be announced on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

Folino is receiving academic honors for the fourth time of her career and studies Business Strategy, with a 4.0 GPA. She has been an offensive force this season, as the starter tallied seven goals and 2 assists. 

As another integral part of BYU’s senior starting lineup, Boren is receiving academic honors for the second time of her career, while studying Business Management and maintaining a 3.53 GPA. She has tallied two goals and eight assists this season.

As a first-time honoree, Bailey has earned a 3.86 GPA while studying communications. The Layton, Utah native has registered 10 goals and one assist this season.

Petersen, earning her second academic honor, has maintained a 3.59 GPA while studying Business Administration as a graduate student. As a key component of BYU’s backline, Petersen has tallied two goals and 12 assists this season.
