MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — BYU women’s swimmers opened the 2024 Big 12 Swim and Dive Championships with an 800 free relay school record on Tuesday afternoon at The Aquatic Center at Mylan Park.
"The meet was full of energy today," said BYU head swimming coach Shari Skabelund. "I am so proud of how all of our athletes keep finding ways to get better."
Tatum Cooley, Victoria Schreiber, Regan Geldmacher and Kara Martinson set the new school record at 7:18.86 while finishing fourth and scoring 52 points. Cooley led off at 1:50.18 through the first 200 and was followed by Schreiber at 1:49.84. Geldmacher put in a strong third leg at 56.53 followed by Martinson’s 1:50.28.
The Cougars’ first event of the day came in the 200 medley relay. There, Emma Marusakova, Mackenzie Lung, Tahis Ibáñez and Halli Williams combined to clock 1:40.41 and take sixth with 48 points. Marusakova led off with a 25.60 in the 50 back followed by Lung’s 27.64 in the 50 breast. Ibáñez and Williams finished off the relay at 24.85 (50 fly) and 22.32 (50 free), respectively.
BYU completed day one at the Big 12 Championships in fourth place with 100 points.
