Parents are Al and Heather...father, Al, is a former running back at Stanford in the 1950's...father is a noted entertainer on the Islands...Alema's older twin brother, Tau, who returned from a church mission in Tahiti at the end of last season, walked on with Alema at BYU...likes to D.J. music...majoring in public relations.
Before BYU
High School - Prepped at Punahou High...lettered four times in track, three times in football and once in basketball...was Punahou's leading rusher as a senior...all-state in football...all-league in basketball...co-captained track team and placed second in pole vault behind his twin brother Tau...coached by Mike Tavish (UCLA).
1984 | Freshman Year
Walked on and played with junior varsity.
1985 | Sophomore Year
Traveled with varsity as a third-unit running back and saw a lot of special teams play.
1986 | Redshirt Year
Redshirted and had back surgery.
1987 | Junior Year
Played on special teams and scored a touchdown rushing against Utah State.
